Akron sits along the Burlington Northern Railroad line in the northeastern plains. It was once the only established town along the line and held great importance among railway men in Colorado. Since 1907, the Central Great Plains Research Station has been providing farmers throughout the country with scientifically proven agricultural information. Today, this small prairie town is also the seat of Washington County.
