Byways Overview

San Juan Skyway – This jaw-dropping byway skims the ridges of the vividly colored San Juan Mountains.
 

West Elk Loop – Forging through canyons, fertile valleys and wide basins, this byway passes through numerous charming mountain towns and takes in quintessential Colorado scenery.
 

Cache la Poudre–North Park – This highway follows one of America’s few, federally designated Wild and Scenic Rivers, the Cache la Poudre River.
 

Flat Tops Trail – This quiet and secluded route links two small ranching communities, with little more than gorgeous peaks and crystalline lakes in between.
 

Gold Belt Tour – This back-road route through Pikes Peak Country travels back in time, through some of Colorado’s most colorful mining towns.
 

Highway of Legends – This arching highway passes through the charming town of La Veta before winding its way between two grand mountain ranges: the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Spanish Peaks.
 

Los Caminos Antiguos – This byway navigates its way between key spots in the cultural and historical San Luis Valley—with a stop at the Great Sand Dunes on the way.
 

Pawnee Pioneer Trails – These trails cross fertile plains and pass the grand Pawnee Buttes, allowing you to go the way of westward-traveling pioneer settlers. 
 

Silver Thread – Another less-traveled road, this mountain route passes through the historic mining towns of Lake City and Creede, venturing through untamed scenery the whole way.
 

Santa Fe Trail – This storied route passes several major historical sites and offers a glimpse of 19th century Colorado.
 

Trail of the Ancients – This extensive road trip connects the dots between Colorado’s prime archaeological sites—Hovenweep, Canyon of the Ancients and Mesa Verde.
 

Trail Ridge Road – The highest paved continuous highway in North America, this nationally designated byway criss-crosses the alpine terrain of Rocky Mountain National Park.
