Cheyenne Wells (Northeast Travel Region)
The Cheyenne County Fair is a welcoming, family-friendly event. Held in the pastoral town of Cheyenne Wells, the fair is a venerated place for food vendors and local artists selling and promoting their crafts. Its fashion revues and princess and queen competitions balance the grit and power of the event’s tractor pulls. For added whimsy, visitors line the racetrack for the slowest race around, the turtle race.

Rocky Mountain Tea Festival: August 2–3, 2008
Boulder (Front Range Travel Region)
The secrets of tea, forever revered for its calming and curative effects, are revealed during the ninth annual Rocky Mountain Tea Festival. Held at the Dushanbe Teahouse, this year’s event features experts who will expound on a variety of uses for the herbal drink. Cooking classes, tasting, workshops and ceremonial demonstrations are all part of the program. Visitors to the event will come away enlightened to the many practical and cultural significances of this delicate drink.

Palisade Peach Festival: August 14–17, 2008

Now in its 40th year, the Palisade Peach Festival honors one of the state’s most sought-after delicacies, the Palisade peach. World-renowned for its sweet, juicy flavor, this rotund piece of perfection is celebrated with four days of peach recipes, vendor booths, musicians and a number of other activities. After you first sink your teeth into one of the town’s award-winning peaches, you’ll understand why a festival is held in its honor.

Pueblo (Southeast Travel Region)
The fairgrounds of Pueblo will rumble under the hoof falls of bucking broncos and wildly careening bulls. Music will pour from guitars and vocal cords as well-known musicians grace the stage. Thousands of people from every corner of Colorado and every walk of life converge on Pueblo for what is arguably one of the most anticipated events in the state, the Colorado State Fair. In addition to concerts and rodeos, a veritable army of vendors will be selling everything from fry bread to stained glass. Independence Film Fest of Colorado: September 3–7, 2008

The world’s highest-altitude film festival turns two in 2008. Leadville, one of three Colorado towns concurrently holding the festival, is also the highest incorporated town in the United States, sitting 10,152 feet above sea level. Venues in Leadville, Buena Vista and Salida showcase independent works that display the creativity and skill of today’s moviemakers. A number of the venues are just as inspiring as the films they house, including the 1888-constructed Old Church in Leadville, an architecturally stunning and historically intriguing building.

Council Tree Pow Wow: September 19–21, 2008
Delta (Southwest Travel Region)
Authentic American Indian dances, ceremonies and spirituality permeate the Council Tree Pow Wow in Delta. American Indian tribes from throughout the region congregate at the pow wow every year to rekindle cultural pride and honor generations-old beliefs and traditions. In the spirit of open arms, all who are interested—American Indian or otherwise—are invited to attend and enjoy dancing, singing, food, art and an authentic cultural experience.

7th Annual Spanish Market & 1830s Rendezvous: September 27–28, 2008
Morrison (Denver Area Travel Region)
The Spanish Market and 1830s Rendezvous is set in an inspiring locale—the grounds of The Fort Restaurant in Morrison, a skillfully recreated eatery modeled after historic Bent’s Fort near La Junta. Participants, dressed as period-accurate mountain men and women, will set up a faux camp on the building’s grounds. Visitors interact with traders and trappers to learn about the lives of early Colorado settlers. In addition, artists influenced by Spanish Colonialists will display their best works.
