Eads, a town of less than 1,000 people, is the county seat of Kiowa County, and is located at the intersections of US Hwy. 287 and CO Hwy. 96. First named Dayton, then New Dayton, the town finally chose “Eads” in honor of James Buchanan Eads, who bridged the Mississippi River. A few miles south of Eads is an area popular with wildlife and water enthusiasts; four reservoirs - Neegronda, Neenoshe, Neesopah and Neeskah – are all located nearby.
