State Bridge, located along Colorado 131 west of Vail, is a popular destination for on-water enthusiasts. A 14-mile stretch of whitewater runs through State Bridge, bringing rafters and kayakers to this tiny junction town. Once home to State Bridge Lodge, a well-loved and often-visited destination unto itself, this historic structure tragically succumbed to fire in 2007. However, efforts are currently underway to reconstruct this popular business, once synonymous with riverside concerts and the sun-kissed rafting community.
State Bridge also marks one end/beginning of the 80-mile Colorado River Headwaters Scenic and Historic Byway. The rough gravel route is challenging to Kremmling, but offers spectacular views and access to fishing and other water sports along the mighty Colorado River.
