THE AMERICAN MOUNTAINEERING MUSEUM: INSPIRING AND EDUCATING CLIMBERS

If touching the sky by conquering a mountain has ever intrigued you, a new museum in Colorado has just what you need. The American Mountaineering Museum in Golden is the first and only museum in the country dedicated to the heroism, technology, culture and spirit of mountaineering.

To help climbers and non-climbers better understand the passion of mountaineering, the museum has dedicated space to educational displays, interactive exhibits and photography, and it has also amassed one of the world’s largest libraries on the subject.

With 54 mountain peaks topping out at more than 14,000 feet — more than any other state in the union — and the highest average altitude at 6,800 feet, Colorado was the obvious home for this novel museum. In a tip of the hat to Colorado’s voluminous mountains, a number of the American Mountaineering Museum’s interactive exhibits are replicas of some of the state’s most impressive peaks.
