Cat Skiing – Irwin has it’s own unique weather system. Winter storms sweep across the western deserts and the first mountains they encounter are the rugged west Elk Mountains, which is home to Irwin. Due to our unique location Irwin receives two to three times the amount of snow that Crested Butte receives with an average of 600 inches a season. Irwin rivals the likes of Alta, Utah and the Canadian Rockies more so than other Colorado resort. We get consistent storms of low-density snow and therefore ski a lot of high quality, dry fluffy powder. Our vast terrain consists of 1,000+ acres of private property and National Forest. Terrain selection is dependent on group ability and snow conditions. The passenger cabs on the snowcats are heated, very comfortable, provide absolutely phenomenal views, and rival to be the nicest snowcats in the world. Skiers often comment that they enjoy the social aspect of the snowcat rides. We generally get in 8-12 runs a day and around 10-15,000 feet of vertical.
