Enjoy riding the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train ride. The Historical Society's Heritage Museum is a must-see. Visit the Christ of the Mines Shrine. Enjoy touring our backcountry, on foot or by vehicle. See the mining relics of yester-year, and the waterfalls, wildlife, and wildflowers. Silverton's Victorian business district on Greene and Blair Streets have numerous restaurants and shops for you to enjoy. Winter is also a great time to experience Silverton. The town-owned and operated Kendall Mountain Ski Area is family-friendly and family-affordable. For the more daring, consider Silverton Mountain, an extreme ski area, which also offers heli skiing. Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort is only 23 miles south of Silverton. Snowmobile and sno-cat tours are available. The Silverton Snowmobile Club grooms many miles of multi-use trails for snowmobilers, skiers and snowshoers.
