Blending the Old West and extreme sports, Leadville celebrates winter with its annual ski joring weekend March 6-8, 2015. Leadville, the highest incorporated city in North America, has been hosting ski joring competitions since 1949. The event, which consists of horse-and-rider teams pulling skiers down a snow-packed road over jumps while spearing rings in a timed competition, draws teams from all over the country. Activities also include Nordic sprints, a winter mountain bike race, broomball games and a paintball biathlon.
