State Offers Year-Round Recreation and Adaptive Sports Programs

DENVER (Feb. 15, 2006) – Vacationers with physical disabilities reach new heights in Colorado. With accessible wilderness areas for fishing and horseback riding, and adaptive sports centers offering skiing, whitewater rafting and other winter and summer recreation, the opportunities to explore Colorado are limitless.

The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), one of the largest outdoor therapeutic recreation agencies in the world, creates programs designed for youth and adults through AbilityCAMPs featuring mountain biking, golf, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, Nordic hut trips and ski racing. Located in Winter Park, the NSCD includes its own adaptive equipment lab and teaches individuals with physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral diagnosis.
