Arkansas Valley Balloon Festival (Rocky Ford): Nov. 6-8, 2009
This November, the high prairie and clear blue sky near Rocky Ford will host one of the state’s premier hot-air balloon festivals. Dozens of colorful balloons will take to the air in early morning floats, rising with air currents and above camera-ready onlookers. Launching at 6:30am on Saturday and Sunday, the break of dawn will be accented with orbs quietly hovering over the high plains. Enjoy the show while sipping hot chocolate and coffee and snacking on warm cinnamon rolls and donuts, provided by the local Rotary Club. For photographers, consider setting up your tripod at the hot air balloon staging site, situated at Rocky Ford High School, located at 100 West Washington in Rocky Ford. Rocky Mountain Women's Film Festival (Colorado Springs): Nov. 6-8, 2009
The longest-running women’s film festival in the world will be held in Colorado Springs. Begun in 1988, the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival has never forgotten its goal of elevating and illuminating the drive, determination and talent of women in film. This year’s event runs the gamut of movie genres, from documentary to feature and short to animated, the films showcased reveal their message in a variety of mediums. Among the many notable films this year are those that uncover human triumph and tackle the tough issue of personal suffering. Filled with heart, passion and even humor, the more than 30 films shown at the festival bravely dive into the nuances of human emotion.
