Visit Pueblo

Once a rough-and-tumble mining town inhabited by infamous ruffians, modern-day Pueblo is a sunny playground on the banks of the Arkansas River. Immerse yourself in the area's history (as well as cafes and shops) in the Union Avenue Historic District, play outdoors at Lake Pueblo State Park or along the riverwalk in what is often one of Colorado's warmest locales, and savor some of the best green chile in the world — the area's famous green chile can only be made with roasted mirasol chiles grown locally. Puebloans serve it for all three meals. For a true taste of local tradition, try it atop a Sicilian sausage sandwich.
