<p>Most of Detour 303's pieces can't be met at face value - every figure he illustrates are real-life characters with stories waiting to be told. In this piece we have Penfield Tate II, Boulder's very first and only Black mayor. Tate was a remarkable member of his community because he was a political activist and lawyer who fought for civil rights, including LGBTQ rights, in the mid- to late 90s. </p>
