Gunnison and Crested Butte

Riders mountain biking through a scenic landscape on a trail with pine trees behind them.

Fall in love with the mountain towns of Gunnison-Crested Butte.

Wander the picturesque jewel-colored downtowns of Crested Butte and Gunnison, popping into shops and museums, stopping to unwind at restaurants and bars, or perusing galleries in their respective Certified Colorado Creative Districts.

In addition to lively culture and a warm welcome, both towns offer easy access to an abundance of year-round outdoor activities. Winter blankets the peaks in inches of snow, creating not only a glistening spectacle but the ideal playground for skiers, boarders, snowmobilers and snowshoers.

Each summer, the region erupts with purple lupines, shocking orange Indian paintbrush and dusky blue columbines. Celebrate them at the annual Crested Butte Wildflower Festival or on hikes and mountain-bike rides on singletrack carving through grassy blankets of color.

Along with scenic drives to ghost towns flanked by golden aspen trees, fall brings primo mountain biking, fly-fishing and hunting. And spring brings a little of all the above, with the added bonus of rushing whitewater, perfect for exhilarating kayak trips.
