The La Junta Chamber of Commerce is proud to present their Annual Early Settlers Day on August 1, 2026—a beloved celebration of heritage, community, and family-friendly fun in southeastern Colorado. The day begins with a community breakfast and a festive parade through downtown La Junta, followed by an exciting lineup of activities at La Junta City Park. The main stage will feature entertainment, guest speakers, and engaging stories that celebrate Colorado's rich history, including the Santa Fe Trail and Bent's Old Fort, located just a few miles from La Junta. Built in 1833, Bent's Old Fort served as an important center of commerce where travelers could rest, repair wagons, receive medical care, and gather supplies along the trail. Southeastern Colorado is featured as a part of Colorado's and the United States of America's vast history. Guests can also enjoy performances by the Salida Circus and other talented artists, along with activities for all ages, including a Fishing Derby at the city park pond, a chalk contest, a Free Family Fun Zone, a Cornhole Tournament, and a Skate Competition. The La Junta Fire Department will provide valuable safety demonstrations throughout the day. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of vendors, including local businesses, craft vendors, nonprofit organizations, and food and beverage vendors offering something for everyone to enjoy. As evening arrives, the celebration continues with a beer garden and a dance featuring live music—an upbeat and memorable way to close out a fun-filled day. Join us in La Junta for Early Settlers Day and experience a full day of history, entertainment, connection, and community celebration. Our local businesses and community members look forward to welcoming you! For more information, contact the La Junta Chamber of Commerce at 719-384-7411 or email [email protected].
