DENVER, Sept. 9, 2024 – The Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) is excited to share that the MICHELIN Guide has announced its second annual selection for Colorado, revealing new culinary stars that further elevate the state’s vibrant food scene. Earlier today, MICHELIN unveiled the 2024 restaurant honorees, recognizing new Bib Gourmand and One-MICHELIN-Star establishments, alongside several special awards for outstanding professionals in Colorado's culinary community. This year's selection continues to celebrate the diverse flavors, exceptional talent, and dedication to excellence that distinguish Colorado as a premier destination for world-class dining experiences.
"The latest MICHELIN Guide for Colorado reflects the dynamic evolution of our state's culinary landscape,” said Timothy Wolfe, Colorado Tourism Office Director. “Each recognition in the guide speaks to the innovation, passion, and dedication of our chefs and restaurateurs. Congratulations to all the distinguished establishments and culinary professionals who continue to elevate Colorado as a top dining and hospitality destination."
New One-MICHELIN-Star Restaurant:
Alma Fonda Fina (Denver; Mexican cuisine)
Chef Johnny Curiel, who began his culinary journey in his family’s restaurant in Guadalajara, revisits dishes and flavors from his upbringing with creativity and finely honed technique. The menu is filled with treasures: perfectly crisped pork belly carnitas make for a brilliant taco on a sourdough flour tortilla, while agave-roasted sweet potato with nutty salsa matcha and luxuriously creamy whipped requesón is a revelation. Vibrant seafood crudos, such as thinly sliced Maine diver scallop with tomatillo and apple aguachile, are downright electric. No desserts are offered for the time being, so there’s no reason to leave any extra room.
New Bib Gourmand Restaurant:
MAKfam (Denver; Chinese cuisine)
What began as a pop-up in New York City and evolved into a stall in a Denver food hall is now a full-service restaurant celebrating the Chinese American roots of owners Doris Yuen and Kenneth Wan. Fried crab and cheese wontons and hand-shaped chicken and chive potstickers are inspired by Chinatown favorites and takeout staples, made with particular care and big flavor. Chicken wings with a spicy, tingly málà seasoning are favorites, and larger dishes, like the familiar-yet-inventive corned beef fried rice or spicy garlic butter rice cakes, impress as well.
MICHELIN Special Awards:
In addition to the Bib Gourmand and Stars, the 2024 Guide also announced four Special Awards recognizing outstanding individuals for their unique contributions:
- Michelin Exceptional Cocktails Award: Jessenia Sanabria, Sweet Basil
- Michelin Sommelier Award: Chris Dunaway, Element 47
- Michelin Outstanding Service Award: Allison Anderson, Beckon
- Michelin Young Chef / Culinary Professional Award: Johnny Curiel, Alma Fonda Fina
New Recommended Restaurants:
This year’s guide also introduces two new recommended restaurants in Denver, adding to Colorado's rich culinary offerings:
- Brasserie Brixton (3701 N. Williams St., Denver 80205)
- Kawa Ni (1900 W. 32nd Ave., Denver 80211)
These new recommendations reflect the growing diversity of Colorado’s dining scene, providing both locals and visitors with even more options to experience innovative and high-quality cuisine.
MICHELIN Keys Program:
In addition to the new restaurant selections, the MICHELIN Guide has recently expanded its accolades to include the MICHELIN Keys program, recognizing exceptional hotels that provide unique and unparalleled hospitality experiences. Based on anonymous stays, the MICHELIN Keys are awarded to accommodations that excel in areas like design, service, character and overall guest experience. As of April 2024, Colorado's recognized hotels include Hotel Jerome, The Little Nell and Mollie Aspen in Aspen; Clayton Hotel & Members Club, Four Seasons Denver and The Crawford Hotel in Denver; and Four Seasons Vail and Sonnenalp Hotel in Vail, each earning one MICHELIN Key.
Celebration Event:
To celebrate these new additions and those highlighted last year, a special celebration event will be held tonight at the Mile High Station in Denver from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The event brings together industry professionals, chefs and restaurateurs to honor the culinary excellence showcased in the MICHELIN Guide Colorado. Images from the event will be available to the media after its conclusion. The CTO looks forward to celebrating with the entire industry and recognizing the hard work and dedication that have brought Colorado’s dining scene to the forefront.
The CTO extends its sincere congratulations to all the culinary professionals and establishments honored in the 2024 MICHELIN Guide. These recognitions underscore the passion, creativity and hard work of Colorado's vibrant culinary community. The complete list of all recognized restaurants and recipients is now available in the 2024 Colorado MICHELIN Guide, with the official announcements made earlier today.
