Situated east of Steamboat Springs along Highway 40, the small town of Kremmling offers access to virtually every outdoor pursuit in Colorado. It is close to three national forests: Routt, Arapaho and White River. The Blue River, the Colorado River and Muddy Creek all pass through town, too, offering ample whitewater adventures for kayakers and rafters as well as some excellent fishing spots. In fact, the fishing is so good that when the town’s reservoir freezes over, it holds an ice-fishing tournament in January and Feburary. And if you crave speed on the snow, snowmobile drag races are held during the last week in January.
Kremmling also is close to Steamboat Springs' downhill slopes, and there's more than 300 miles of cross-country ski trails in the county. Summer activities include horseback riding, hiking and driving along scenic roads.
Lodging and dining is affordable here and the residents are friendly, down-to-earth people.
