Even before World War II, Japanese Americans contributed to Colorado’s agricultural industry through their farms across the state. This bus tour will focus on some of the accomplishments of our Japanese-American neighbors through a tour of the past and a connection with farmers of the present. Gil Asakawa will lead us on a day bus tour in the Brighton area to engage with this essential part of Colorado history. Our first stop will be Minoru Farms, owned by a 4th-generation daughter of immigrants, Jade Sato. Minoru Farms’ mission is to grow Asian vegetables to feed its local and diverse community. Before lunch, we’ll meet with Robert Sakata, son of Bob Sakata, to learn more about the 1986 recipient of Centennial Ranch and Farm status, Sakata Farms. Mr. Sakata will lead us on a tour and discuss his family’s impact on the past and present vegetable crop industry. Join us on this day of farm tours and exploring Colorado’s Japanese history! Registration Deadline: 07/06/2026 Guides: Gil Asakawa, Jade Sato, Robert Sakata Bus Tour = Moderate (Please note there will be stretches of walking on dirt and uneven terrain.)
