Thomas Jefferson's Tombstone Epitaph

Honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Loveland Historical society is hosting a lecture on Thomas Jefferson's Tombstone Epitaph, by Doug McCormick. "Here was buried Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of American Independence, of the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom, and father of the University of Virginia." "Because by these," he explained, "as testimonials that I have lived, I wish most to be remembered." The talk will not only review the Jefferson's efforts as part of the Committee of Five to create the Declaration but will also show the Declaration House where Jefferson lived when he produced the draft of the Declaration. The talk further honors one of our most fundamental freedoms by covering how Jefferson's efforts on the Virginia Statute ultimately led to the religious freedom clauses in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
