A sign for the Kosmos Stargazing Resort & Spa stands tall against the night sky, which glitters with countless stars near Mosca, Colorado.

Kosmos Stargazing Resort & Spa

If you want to feel starstruck in the literal sense, it doesn’t get much better than Kosmos Stargazing Resort & Spa near Mosca. Tucked into the San Luis Valley, it sits just 15 minutes from the epic Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve and stares straight at the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains in all their glory.

To experience Colorado’s cosmic side, this property is sure to bring out your inner Carl Sagan. Opened in spring 2025, Kosmos has added to the few accommodation options near the Great Sand Dunes. But this isn’t just a place to sleep: Kosmos touts “astro-tourism,” taking advantage of its location in a Bortle Class 2 Dark Sky site — the second-darkest skies on the planet — to offer an unforgettable stay beyond a typical glamping experience.

Kosmos currently features two villa types, each designed to make you feel a seamless connection to the stars and nature around you. The Stargazing villas are 1,200 square feet of stylish comfort, perfect for up to four guests. The two-story Galaxy villas have two bedrooms and enough space for up to eight people. Both come with heated floors for cozy vibes, a private high-tech telescope, a full kitchen and a massive dome-style living area that frames mountain and sky views like you’re inside your own IMAX theater. You’ll also get dune views from the sleeping areas — ideal for early-morning “I can’t believe this is real” moments.

While the full resort is still under development, each villa already offers plenty of privacy and comfort. Breakfast and lunch are currently included, with all-inclusive packages set to begin in 2026. A full wellness center and spa arrives in 2026, and by 2027 you’ll be able to nerd out in the Stargazing and Learning Center.

What makes it special?

In short: luxury + stargazing = cosmic bliss. Kosmos combines high-end design with an immersive stargazing experience that feels both futuristic and deeply in tune with the landscape. The villas are modern, sleek and engineered for comfort, but the star of the show (pun very much intended) is the night sky. It’s a rare place where you can sip hot cocoa on a heated floor while finding constellations through your private telescope.

The most Colorado thing about this place

Like much of the state, it’s an excellent winter destination. The colder months are prime for stargazing with the clearest skies, thanks to drier and more stable air that provides sharper celestial views. Plus, less daylight hours means you’ll have more time to relish the otherworldly illumination. Just be sure to bring lots of layers to adapt to the weather!

Coolest amenity

Each villa has a private hot tub enclosed in a crystal-clear dome for ultimate stargazing and relaxation. It’s basically a personal bubble of bliss where you can soak in steamy comfort while admiring the night sky.

Top sensory encounter you’ll experience

Picture this: You, suspended in a low-gravity lounge chair on a crisp evening. The Milky Way splashed across the sky. Constellations glow like someone sprinkled glitter above you. And the silence? The peaceful quiet of the San Luis Valley envelops you as you stare up to the heavens.

Our favorite traveler review

“Very unique experience! The villa is very comfortable and you're positioned to have amazing views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. You have access to a state-of-the-art telescope that is user friendly. The best part is you can run it from the comfort of the couch, bed, spa — you name it! So rad! Can't say enough about the potential of this place. Beautiful area day and night!” — Brian R., Tripadvisor
