Beneath a cloud-studded blue sky near South Fork, Colorado, a large sign with a skier on it reads, "Wolf Creek Ski Lodge"

LOGE Wolf Creek

Located at the base of southwest Colorado's San Juan Mountains, near the town of South Fork, LOGE Wolf Creek is a prime jumping-off point for outdoor adventure. You’ll have sparkling rivers for rafting and fishing, hiking and biking trails, ATV routes and more all at your fingertips. And you can’t forget about the fresh powder at Wolf Creek Ski Area right down the road.

Craving adventure but still want the comforts of home? There’s no need to rough it in the backcountry when LOGE Wolf Creek exists. Recently renovated in a sleek Scandinavia-meets-old-school-Colorado style, the property boasts a variety of rooms with excellent amenities to make it your homebase for exploration.

Choose among standard rooms, deluxe king and queen spaces that come with a kitchenette, or a two-bedroom condo featuring a full kitchen. Each option has a coffee/tea maker, a no-frills TV and coveted high-speed Wi-Fi. There are also RV pads with all the hookups if you’re cruising in style or living the #VanLife. Bringing your fluffy pup along? Dogs are allowed in all the rooms, with pet fees included in your stay.

There’s plenty to enjoy outside your room, too. Stroll around and you’ll find the on-site Cafe 430 + Bar, where you can conveniently grab breakfast, lunch or snacks from morning to evening. Start your day with a savory egg-cheddar-and-ham breakfast sando, dive into lunchtime chicken tenders or sip on a local brew from the bar. Prefer to whip something up yourself? Throw some burgers on the Traegers in the communal chillin’-and-grillin’ area, then challenge someone to a rousing game of cornhole.

What makes it special?

Aiming to foster a sense of community, this spot offers plenty of gathering spaces to chat with other guests and swap stories about the day’s adventures, including the firepits, patio and coworking space. LOGE also chooses to renovate and update existing properties like old motels and hotels in the most sustainable ways possible, trying to blend in with the surroundings and limit its environmental footprint.

The most Colorado thing about this place

Anticipating that you’re there for the outdoors, LOGE Wolf Creek outfits all its rooms with a handy gear wall to store skis, boards and other equipment, a Yeti cooler for your use and boot driers to crank up after a day on the slopes.

Coolest amenity

Soothe sore muscles by alternating between the huge cedar-barrel sauna and its matching hot tub beneath a vast, star-filled sky.

Quirkiest thing to expect

How often do you find a hammock in your hotel room? You will at LOGE Wolf Creek — some guests prefer to sleep in theirs instead of the bed, or you can just lounge and softly swing with a book in hand.

Our favorite traveler review

“The LOGE is absolutely excellent. There is an easy and streamlined reservation and check-in process. It’s more like an Airbnb in that regard — was very easy. Room was very clean and modern with lots of cool touches like the Yeti and hammock. The coffee bar and bar/eatery was excellent and very convenient. We stayed in the summer, but this place is going to rock in the winter for après ski with the firepits, bar area, etc. We will be recommending the LOGE to others.” — Paul J., Tripadvisor

Things to see & do nearby

Many travelers are drawn to South Fork for a chance to hit the slopes at Wolf Creek Ski Area just 25 minutes away. Would you believe us if we told you it gets an average of more than 400 inches of snow each year — one of the highest snowfall totals of ski resorts in Colorado?

Outside of winter, cast a fly-fishing line in the Gold Medal waters of the Rio Grande River or get your heart pumping on a hike or bike ride into the Weminuche Wilderness, where you can traverse a portion of the Continental Divide Trail. Come fall, go for a scenic drive to peep the brilliant shades of aspen leaves along the Silver Thread scenic byway.
