A custom metal sign with tree and mountain accents says, "Trail and Hitch Tiny Home Hotel and RV Park" near Meeker, Colorado.

Trail and Hitch Lodging & RV Park

Just beyond downtown Meeker, Trail and Hitch Lodging & RV Park sits in a wide high-desert valley framed by the China Wall — a rugged ridgeline that rises toward the White River Plateau and the White River National Forest.

The moment you step out of your car, it feels like you’ve found an off-the-radar escape — a tiny-home village on a piece of open high-desert, with sprawling shrubs, hills beyond and nothing but the sky overhead. Trail and Hitch offers different types of accommodations depending on the season, from cozy little houses and yurts to spacious sites for RVs and tents. It’s your stay, your way in a peaceful setting far from the noise of city life. With a shared community patio and uninterrupted views, this getaway delivers a true escape into nature.

What makes it special?

At Trail and Hitch Lodging & RV Park, you decide how close to the natural world you want to be. Settle into one of the tiny homes, glamp in a yurt, park at an RV site or pitch a tent for a true outdoor stay. If you’re into camping — but not really — the yurt offers a little extra comfort while still keeping you close to what’s outside. Inside, you’ll find the basics of home: a dining area, a mini fridge, a hot plate for meals and a coffee maker that hits just right in the morning. Tent and RV sites come with picnic tables and fire rings, perfect for nights beneath the stars.

The most Colorado thing about this place

Can it get more Colorado than stepping straight into a wide-open landscape? Trail and Hitch lets you trade city lights for starry skies, with campfires, quiet nights and fresh air right at your door or tent flap. Wherever you stay, you’re surrounded by the raw beauty of Meeker.

Quirkiest thing to expect

The tiny homes are easily the quirkiest — and the most charming — part of Trail and Hitch. These unconventional spaces pack the warmth of home into creative, compact designs, each with its own theme and color scheme. You’ll find a bright and airy farmhouse, a rustic cabin decked out in plaid and a sleek, modern hideaway in dark neutrals.

Lil Rio is the tiniest of them, but don’t let its size fool you — it’s built for two and stocked with all the essentials. There’s a bathroom and a kitchenette with a burner-style electric cooktop, toaster, microwave, pans, coffee maker and mini fridge. On the other end, White River Casita is the largest of the bunch. It sleeps up to eight and comes with a four-burner cooktop and everything Lil Rio offers, just with a lot more elbow room.

Most of the tiny homes include a loft-style sleeping area with one to three beds and a private deck with a grill and picnic table — proof that big living can fit into a tiny layout.

Room with the best view

All of them, seriously. The lodging and RV park surrounds you with the natural environment, from the valley floor to the panoramic ridgetop that rises on the horizon. A full 360-degree outlook reveals forested hillsides, open skies and elevated backdrops that stretch in every direction. Guests have described waking up to a scene that feels both expansive and tucked away, like nature’s amphitheater.
