The Wyman Hotel

The Wyman Hotel

Nestled in the classic mining hamlet of Silverton, with immaculate mountain views, The Wyman Hotel is a striking, modern contrast to its surroundings. Don’t let the interior’s millennial-pink touches fool you though. This 1902, red-stone ex-mercantile structure has seen some things. Once home to a dentist’s office and mining company, the Wyman building was a center of commerce. Today, it’s a luxurious jumping-off point for outdoor pursuits, historical train rides and mouthwatering meals.

Bright, white walls provide the perfect canvas for forest-green, velvet headboards, plus blush-colored drapes and pale wood accents. Step into the inky, hexagon-tiled shower for an overly long scrub sesh with Aesop soaps. Or bring your 10 closest friends and, literally, bunk up in the Bunkroom (10 beds, with ocean-blue velour curtains that supply snug vibes). Whichever way you choose to enjoy The Wyman, the minimalist light fixtures, cozy corners and history of the building will yield an unforgettable stay.

What makes it special?

Every inch of the hotel is Instagrammable. So, grab a seat atop a low, round velveteen chair that rests under eye-catching bookshelves with a mystery novel and read the day away. Or sidle up to a leather bar stool and order a bubbly Aperol spritz cocktail — you’ll fit right in.

The most Colorado thing about this place

The settlement of Silverton screams "Colorado." The streets off Greene Street are unpaved, and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad drives up a main thoroughfare — actually, that is the most Colorado thing. You must book a trip down to Durango on the jet-black, 1880s steam train. Feel the wind rush through your hair as you watch for insane vistas of mountain passes, roaring rivers and towering trees. The rail was even voted No. 1 Best Scenic Train by USA Today Readers’ Choice in 2021.

Best room to book

Please choose Suite 4 when you log onto the hotel’s website to book your stay. A king bed sits in the middle of a loft situation with two ladders leading up to the comfiest twin beds you’ll ever sleep in. How they made sleeping so glamorous, we will never know. The space also comes with a full-sized refrigerator (for all those cans of Apple of My Eye IPA from Avalanche Brewing Company down the street you’ve picked up), a dining area and a private bath.

Our favorite traveler review

“We were lucky enough to stay in The Wyman during the ‘shoulder season’ — just after the height of the ski season and before the summer crowds. What a wonderful stay! Besides having perfectly appointed and gorgeous, super-clean rooms, the staff here was excellent and super accommodating. We had some odd requests, and they were very kind and made us feel right at home. We will be back and have raved to family and friends! Bonus: Tesla chargers out front! Absolutely worth the $.” — Jessie R., Tripadvisor

Things to see & do nearby

In summer, hop on the Alpine Loop scenic and historic byway to Ouray to hike the short but steep Cascade Falls. Or, in winter, motor down 150 miles of groomed snowmobile trails that look like they are covered in royal icing. Back in town, the old county jail is a time capsule of the past, as are Old Hundred Gold Mine and Mayflower Mill National Historic Landmark.
