The Hinsdale County Historical Society was established in October 1973 and opened its first museum in the Finley Block in July 1975. The building seen here was leased at that time, but eventually was purchased by the Society in 1989. Through the years, purchase of the main building extensive improvements, the relocation of historica buildings, artifact acquisition, display development, and continuing expansion projects have been made possible through the efforts of dedicated colunteers and funds from individuals, families, private businesses, philanthropists, state, local and national grantors, and others.
