The most Colorado thing about this place

The spirit of The Distillery Inn is decidedly Coloradan. Need proof? You can bring your furry best friend to this pet-friendly hotel (and really, the dog should be Colorado’s state animal because we love them so much!). Rooms come with custom beds, food and water bowls, a pet-in-room door sign and doggie treats. You’re not going to get much more Colorado than that, folks.

Coolest amenity

It’s the on-site tasting room! Sidle up to the smooth, white bar made of yule marble and perch under stylish pendant lighting. You’ll appreciate the ample seating, wide-open feel and mountain-chic decor. Sip on the house-made Marble Vodka, a mix of wheat and malted barley distilled in a copper pot. Taste the zesty Gingercello, flavored with fresh-cut ginger and lemon or sample a variety of other Marble Distilling Co. spirits.

Quirkiest thing to expect

When you go to the tasting room, ask to see “Hazel,” the shiny 250-gallon Vendome copper-pot finishing still. It’s as beautiful as it is utilitarian.

“We loved this ultra-modern inn. The bed and pillows were heavenly, the shower was huge with a rain head and wand and a fireplace and patio to boot. We got a bottle of their fine vodka with our three-night stay as well as two free (very imaginative) cocktails at the downstairs bar. Seek out Carbondale Creative District offerings like galleries and public art installations — including a free contemporary-style exhibit at the nearby Powers Art Center. Or pop into another libations-focused biz like Carbondale Beer Works.

Skiers and snowboarders of all levels will love Aspen Snowmass’ four destination ski mountains. And Aspen’s historic, silver-boom downtown is a true cultural haven filled with luxury shopping, fine dining and the Aspen Art Museum. Hikers should plan an excursion to the Maroon Bells in White River National Forest. You’re sure to get an Instagram-worthy photo of the often-snowcapped Maroon and North Maroon Peak reflecting in the glacial-blue lake below.

Another worthy daytrip: Head to Glenwood Springs for a soak at one of two toasty hot-spring locales: Glenwood Hot Springs or Iron Mountain Hot Springs. When your fingers are sufficiently pruned, it’s time to take a scenic gondola ride up to the mountaintop Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park.
